Pro Bono Services

Providing high-quality litigation support services to those who are unable to pay is critically important to our community, the firm, and the litigation support profession. That is why CyberControls strongly supports the ABA's Code of Professional Responsibility, which states that "the basic responsibility for providing legal services for those unable to pay ultimately rests upon the individual lawyer," and that "every lawyer, regardless of professional prominence or professional workload, should find time to participate in serving the disadvantaged." It is in this same spirit that CyberControls provides its resources to help conduct digital evidence discovery support to economically disadvantaged clients and their lawyers.

State and local bar organizations, as well as all non-profit providers of legal services, increasingly expect law firms to undertake pro bono cases. Many of these same cases are likely to require support in conducting an electronic discovery effort in behalf of the client.  Local attorneys often ask CyberControls to help support their indigent clients. Moreover, our paying clients have requested that we provide pro bono assistance in deserving cases.

Although we are always extremely busy in representing paying clients and in managing professional and personal obligations, our commitment to pro bono service is unequivocal. We recognize that less experienced forensic examiners, in particular, obtain valuable experience on pro bono matters in the form of greater responsibilities and client interaction. Managers are fully aware of the firm's policy of strongly encouraging team members to participate in our pro bono program consistent with their ongoing caseloads. Thus, pro bono work should be regarded as a routine, not exceptional, part of a junior examiner’s experience.

CyberControls’ pro bono support program provides both litigation and non-litigation support opportunities. We also recognize that pro bono service is a matter of personal choice, and I am proud that the firm's Forensic Services team has consistently demonstrated that they share our institutional commitment.
